![]() Have you ever written a haiku? I love this form of poetry because it does NOT have to rhyme and it is short and spontaneous. The format is three lines and they have seventeen syllables in a 5/7/5 syllable count. In traditional Japanese haiku writing topics often focused on nature, but this direct format can be simple, intense, and quite moving. When paired with an image or art expression they can be very descriptive and emotional. For this prompt I want to encourage you to try your hand at a haiku and then put it in a journal entry. Create an entry using mixed media...collage. Not sure what to write about? In my studio we have a box of laminated words people have added and we have used them choosing three to implement into an art journal entry. These can often be fun and not so serious. You could even open up a random book and see what the first or last word on the page is. Check out some examples below. I hope you like this prompt! I would love to see what you came up with!
