![]() "What does mindfulness mean?" I am asked this question often. I have done a prompt on this topic in the past, but like anything we want to accomplish in our lives...things take practice. Mindfulness is a powerful tool many use daily to process life. In the practice of mindfulness, we sit in a moment, what ever it may be...easy or difficult...and honor exactly what is happening for what it is. We don't try to change it. It is moment to use all of your senses to assist in grounding you while accepting that moment. Mindfulness is a powerful tool to incorporate in your daily habits. Mindfulness stems from around 2,600 years ago in Buddhism and can relieve stress, increase problem solving potential, self-control, objectivity, enhanced flexibility, improved concentration, mental clarity, not to mention increased ability to relate to others and one's self with kindness, compassion and acceptance. This week try using mindfulness before working in your art journal. Sit in the moment and honor all that is happening using your senses. When you are ready shift gears into your art journal and create an entry honoring what moment you were in. Use your senses, imagery, words, colors, symbols. Journaling is an ideal place to honor your process. Listen to your body, mind and spirit. During the process take care of your needs. Take breaks if you need to. It's an honor to be a part of your journey. Be kind to yourself!
